For Policy and Practitioners
DECIPHer engages strongly with policy, practice and public user communities to translate the research results into practical outcomes.
Collaborative partnerships with policy makers in the Welsh Government and the Department of Health and practitioners in Public Health Wales mean that innovative and effective interventions developed by the Centre are able to be implemented locally and nationally and existing planned policies are able to be evaluated effectively.
DECIPHer builds upon the success of the Public Health Improvement Research Network (PHIRN) in Wales to develop a vibrant multidisciplinary collaborative culture, with a strong emphasis on engagement with non-academic users. This involves developing enduring partnerships with policy and practice organisations around a comprehensive programme of activities, and a developing portfolio of collaborative projects. Methodological expertise can also be given to support PHIRN projects. Contact Ellie Byrne, PHIRN Coordinator for further information.
In the South West of England, DECIPHer has developed close links with NHS South West and South West Public Health Training and Education colleagues. DECIPHer is a key partner in the development of the South West Public Health Scientific Conference.
DECIPHer has also developed a comprehensive and flexible capacity development programme in partnership with policy and practice colleagues through it’s Research Capacity Development Group with a focus on developing early stage researchers. A major component is an expanded public health research short course programme, which along with exchanges, placements and action learning sets is open to and maximise engagement with policy-makers and practitioners.
